Water coming in? Call now.

We answer the phone around the clock, every day of the year, and aim to attend the same day wherever we possibly can. The first job is always to stop water getting into the building. The permanent repair comes after that, once we can do it properly.

  • Answered 24 hours a day
  • Same-day attendance where possible
  • Temporary make-safes
  • Insurance and storm damage work
01 — What happens when you call

Stop the water first. Fix it properly second.

An emergency call-out and a roof repair are two different jobs, and trying to do both at once in the dark and the wet is how people end up paying twice. When we attend an emergency the priority is making the building safe and dry — a temporary covering, a sheet, a tarpaulin dressed in properly, loose material taken down before it comes down on its own.

Once the water has stopped we can look at the roof in daylight and in dry conditions, work out what actually failed, and quote the permanent repair. That way the repair is specified against the real cause rather than against whatever we could reach at 11pm.

If it turns out the permanent fix is small, we will often just do it there and then. We are not going to make two visits out of a slipped tile.

02 — How a call-out runs

What to expect, in order.

Roughly what happens between you ringing and the water stopping. Timings depend on where you are and what the weather is doing.

  1. You call and we talk it through

Dean or one of the team answers. We will ask what you can see, whether water is actively coming in, and where — that usually tells us what we are dealing with and what to bring. Photos help if you can safely take them.

  2. We give you a straight answer on timing

If we can get to you today, we will say so. If the weather makes the roof genuinely unsafe to work on, we will say that too, and tell you what to do inside in the meantime to limit the damage. We would rather be honest than have you sat waiting.

  3. Make safe

Loose or hanging material taken down, the opening covered and dressed so it sheds rather than collects, and anything that could blow into the street removed. Where the roof cannot be safely accessed at night we will tell you plainly and get to it at first light.

  4. Survey in daylight, then quote

Once the building is dry we come back and look at it properly, photograph what we find, and give you a written quotation for the permanent repair. You are under no obligation to have us do it.

  5. Documentation for your insurer

We photograph what we find and what we did, so you have something to send an insurer. We undertake insurance work including storm damage claims.

03 — Is this an emergency?

When to ring rather than wait.

If any of these apply, do not wait for a weekday. If none of them do, a normal appointment is usually the better and cheaper answer.

  • Water actively coming through a ceiling, a light fitting or a wall
  • Tiles, slates or ridge sections that have come off in a storm
  • Anything loose at height that could fall onto a path, a road or a car
  • A visible hole in the roof, or daylight through it from the loft
  • A chimney, stack or parapet that has moved or looks unstable
  • A flat roof holding standing water with the ceiling below already staining
  • Lead or flashing peeled back and flapping in the wind
  • A gutter or downpipe that has come away and is discharging against the wall
04 — What it costs

What moves the price on a call-out.

We will not quote an emergency over the phone without knowing what we are coming to, and we will not pretend a make-safe and a permanent repair are the same thing. These are the things that move it.

  • The time of day, and whether it is a weekday, a weekend or the middle of the night
  • How far out you are from Worthing
  • Whether the roof can be reached safely off a ladder or needs a tower or a scaffold
  • What the weather is doing, which decides how much can be done on the first visit
  • Whether the visit ends in a temporary make-safe or a completed permanent repair
  • The materials involved — a replacement tile and a section of lead are very different

We will tell you what the call-out costs before we set off, and the permanent repair is quoted separately in writing once we have seen the roof in daylight.

05 — Recent call-outs

Out on the roofs, whatever the hour.

A few frames from genuine Masters call-outs. Emergency work is not photogenic and it is not meant to be — it is meant to stop the water.

08 — Common questions

GRP Fibreglass: the questions we get asked.

Yes. The number on this page rings a phone that is answered around the clock, every day of the year, including Christmas. What we cannot promise is that we can safely get on a roof at three in the morning in a gale — in that case we will tell you honestly, talk you through what to do inside to limit the damage, and be there at first light.

We aim for same-day attendance wherever possible across Worthing and West Sussex. After a big storm the whole county rings at once, so we prioritise properties where water is actively getting in and anything that is unsafe over the street. We will always give you a realistic time rather than a comforting one.

Get buckets under the drips, move furniture and electricals clear, and if water is pooling in a ceiling and bulging it, put a container underneath and pierce the lowest point with a screwdriver so it drains in one place rather than bringing the whole ceiling down. Do not go up on the roof yourself, and do not go into a loft with standing water near a light fitting — turn the circuit off first.

A properly dressed temporary covering will keep a building dry for weeks, not hours, which is the point — it buys the time to do the permanent repair correctly in dry conditions rather than botching it in the wet. We will tell you how long we expect it to last and book the proper fix in.

We undertake insurance work including storm damage. We photograph what we find and what we do, and give you a written report and quotation you can send to your insurer. We are roofers rather than loss adjusters, so we will not handle the claim for you, but we will give you everything you need to make it.

Out of hours costs more than a weekday appointment, and we will tell you what it costs before we set off rather than after we arrive. If what you have is a slow drip in a spare room rather than water coming through a light fitting, we will say so and book you a normal appointment instead — that is cheaper for you and easier for us.

Roof leaking right now?

Call and you will speak to a roofer, not a call centre. If it can wait until morning we will tell you that too — and book you in properly rather than charging you for the night.
